Staff Reporter : BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said his party will not hold any dialogue with Awami League and its President Sheikh Hasina.

He said, “We won’t hold any talks with Sheikh Hasina and her government because she doesn’t keep her promise.”

Mirza Fakhrul made the remark in a press conference at BNP chairperson’s Gulshan political office in capital Dhaka on Tuesday afternoon.

Referring to the Dr Kamal Hossain-led BNP dialogue with Sheikh Hasina before the 2018 election, he said, “Prime Minister in that talks said there will be more no arrests (of BNP activists), police harassments and fictitious cases but since three days, our candidates have been arrested and tortured.”

Criticizing Monday’s statement of Prime Minister ‘Who will we dialogue with? I held a dialogue in 2018 election, what was its result? They did nothing but questioned the polls’, Mirza Fakhrul told her, “Resign right now if you have so courage and made development.”

“Hand over power to a caretaker government and hold election through a new election commission. If you come to power in that election, we’ll accept this,” the BNP secretary general also said.

BNP chief’s Advisor Ismail Jabiullah and the party’s Social Welfare Secretary were, among others, present at the press conference.
