The leader of the parliamentary standing committee on the LGRD ministry, Khandker Mosharraf Hossain, a member of the ruling Awami League from Faridpur-3, was removed from office on Sunday.

Nurul Islam Nahid, a former minister of education, has been appointed to lead the parliamentary standing committee on the LGRD ministry.

Chief Whip Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury Liton made the proposal before the legislature on behalf of Leader of the House Sheikh Hasina, and it was accepted by voice vote.

The former LGRD minister Khandker Mosharraf did not attend the session.

His absence from the legislature since March of last year prevented the parliamentary standing committee from holding any meetings, according to sources in the Parliament Secretariat.

Only two meetings of the parliamentary body were conducted in 2017.

A parliamentary body is required by the Jatiya Sangsad’s rules of procedure to hold at least one meeting each month.

However, the JS body has not met for the past 10 months.
