Police have detained 47 people in separate drives at two mosques in Dinajpur district on suspicion of involvement in militant activity.

On information that some people in the name of Tablighi Jamaat were staying at Baitul Fala Jam-e Masjid at Meddapara in Sadar upazila, a team of the Anti Terrorism Unit raided the mosque from 12 midnight to 2 am on Friday and nabbed 30 people from there, sources in the police said.

At the same time, another ATU team raided Birol Bazar Jam-e Masjid in Birol upazila on same information and held 17 people.

After detention, they were taken to Dinajpur Police Lines.

Birol Bazar Jam-e Masjid’s Moazzin Moazzem Hossain told Jago News that 17 people were detained from the mosque.

Police had said they were nabbed because the law enforcers had information of conducting militant activity there, Hossain added.

Contacted Dinajpur’s Police Superintendent Mohammad Anwar Hossain, he told Jago News this morning that he cannot say anything without knowing the matter well.
