276 more dengue patients hospitalised

The dengue situation of the country is not stable as the number of single-day dengue cases are still over 200 and the dengue patients also have been dying every day.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 276 more dengue patients were hospitalised in the country in the last 24 hours till Monday morning.

It said 5,659 dengue patients were hospitalised in 23 days of August while 2,286 in July, 272 in June, 43 in May, three in April, 13 in March, nine in February and 32 in January this year.
Some 25 dengue patients died in current month August and 12 in July in the country, the DGHS added.

The DGHS said 243 new patients were hospitalised in the capital and 33 patients were outside the city in the last 24 hours till 8am on Monday.

A total of 1059 patients diagnosed with dengue are now receiving treatment at 41 government and private hospitals in Dhaka while 87 outside the city, it said.

The number of death from the dengue disease also has been increasing day by day as a total of 37 deaths caused by dengue have been reported in hospitals this year, the DGHS added.

The unofficial sources from different hospitals said at least 40 people, who were infected with dengue, died in the country this year.

A total of 8,317 dengue patients were hospitalised across the country including in Dhaka city since January until August 23 this year.
The DGHS has been recording over 200 dengue cases per day since August 1 while most of the cases have been reported in the Dhaka city so far.

Meanwhile, amid the rise in dengue cases, the DGHS announced six hospitals in Dhaka dedicated to treating dengue patients.

A notification signed by Dr Mijanur Rahma, director (MIS) of the DGHS, was issued in this regard.

According to the notification, the six dedicated hospitals are: Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital, Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital in Tongi; Railway General Hospital at Kamalapur, 20-bed Aminbazar Govt Hospital, Lalkuthi Hospital in Mirpur, and 31-bed Kamrangirchar Hospital.
