Two held with snake venom worth Tk 90 crore

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested two smugglers and seized snake venom worth Tk 90 crore in Habiganj.
The RAB members led by Lieutenant Colonel Abu Musa Mohammad Shariful Islam of RAB-9 Habiganj Camp arrested them from Atgharia in Sadar Upazila. At this time, some venom storage equipment including snake venom was recovered from them.

The arrested were handed over to Habiganj Sadar Model Police Station on Monday afternoon.

The arrested are Jasim Uddin, son of Abdul Barik of Atgharia village in Poil UP of Habiganj Sadar Upazila and Ala Uddin, son of Ezabat Ali of the same village.

According to RAB, there is a cycle of snake venom smugglers besides two arrested traffickers. They have been collecting snake venom from different parts of the country for a long time and smuggling it out of the country. On Sunday evening, RAB members were arrested on a tip-off and arrested from Atgharia. At that time snake venom weighing about 9 kg in 6 jars was recovered from them. Besides, a guidebook, a DVD player and several other types of equipment were recovered from them.

Habiganj Sadar Model Police Station (OC) Masuk Ali said that the RAB had handed over the accused to the police station. They are currently in police custody. At the end of the next legal action, they will be sent to jail through the court.
