Dr Kazi Sabira Rahman, who was found dead at her Kalabagan residence yesterday, was stabbed at least nine times.

There are four stab injuries in her throat and five others on her back. Two of the stabbings damaged her lungs, sources at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue said.

Police members who saw the body yesterday also said there were several stab marks on the body.

Family members received the body after autopsy at the hospital and buried it at Azimpur graveyard this evening.

“It is a planned murder. We hope that police will soon arrest the killer and find out the motive. We are waiting for it,” Jakia Khandkar, a cousin of the physician, told The Daily Star.

Jakia said they are unaware of any feud with anyone. The family is preparing to file a case in this regard.

Police recovered the body of Sabira, a doctor at Green Life Hospital, from her rented flat on the second floor of the building yesterday.

Three persons including caretaker of the building were picked up yesterday and are still being interrogated.

Shahen Shah Mahmud, additional deputy commissioner (New Market Zone) of DMP said they are yet to arrest anyone in this regard.

Police are waiting for the victim’s family to record a case, he said adding “we are investigating it.”

Sabira rented the three-room flat and sublet two rooms to two girls. Her husband separately stays in Shantinagar area and their son is preparing for going to Canada. Their only daughter, who used to stay with her mother sometimes, was in her grandmother’s house in Green Road during the incident.
