Hefazat leader Abdur Rahim Qasemi arrested

Brahmanbaria Correspondent : Police arrested Mufti Abdur Rahim Qasemi, the recently resigned joint general secretary of Hefazat-e-Islam in Brahmanbaria district unit and a member of the central committee of Hefazat-e-Islam, from Vadughar in the municipal area on Tuesday afternoon.

Brahmanbaria Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Crime) Roich Uddin confirmed the arrest of Mufti Abdur Rahim Qasemi.

Mufti Qasemi resigned from the party on April 23, demanding justice for those involved in the riots carried out by the Hifazat men and for claiming that such destructive acts were un-Islamic.

But police said that Mufti Qasemi was involved in recent violence. He was also involved in Hefazat violence in 2016.

In protest against the arrival of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of the golden jubilee of independence of Bangladesh, Hifazat leaders and activists carried out violence in Brahmanbaria from March 26 to 28 and vandalized various government and non-government establishments, including the Brahmanbaria railway station.

In these incidents some 56 cases were registered in different police stations. In these cases, 414 people were named and another 35,000 people were unnamed. So far 415 people were arrested in this regard.
