Gazi Group Chattogram picked up a nine-wicket victory in their first game of the Bangabandhu T20 Cup today while Dhaka, who came into the tournament as one of the stronger sides, slumped to their second defeat in two games.

Chattogram bowlers may have done their job in bowling a consistent line and length but Beximco Dhaka batsmen made it easy with poor shot selection as Dhaka skittled out for just 88 in the evening game today at Mirpur.

Tanzid Hasan fell early and Sabbir Rahman played 10 deliveries without troubling the scoreboard. Experienced campaigner Mushfiqur Rahim, the captain of the side needed something solid to hold the innings together but unsarcastically went for a reverse sweep on the very first delivery he faced from Nahidul Islam and gloved it to Soumya Sarkar at slip. From there on in, Naim Sheikh and Akbar Ali tried to solidify the innings with the former smashing his way to a 40 off 23 deliveries with three sixes and three fours. But the duo both fell in the ninth over — both castled by Mossaddek Hossain – as Dhaka failed to recover and only managed to play 16.2 overs.

All the bowlers were amongst the wickets with Shoriful Islam and Mustafizur Rahman along with Mosaddek and Taijul Islam bagging two wickets each.

In reply, Chattogram openers Liton Das and Soumya Sarkar breezed their way to a 79-run opening partnership before the former was the only wicket to fall in the innings after a 33-ball 34. Soumya on the other hand would be glad to return amongst the runs through a 29-ball 44 laced with four fours and two sixes as Chattogram completed a nine-wicket route of Dhaka with 9.1 overs to spare.
