Lalmonirhat mob lynching: Another accused arrested

Police have arrested Mohammad Liton Mia, the accused in three separate cases filed at Patgram Police Station in connection with the brutal beating to death of Abu Yunus Mohammad Shahidunnabi Jewel at Burimari Central Jame Mosque in Burimari union of Lalmonirhat upazila.

The arrest was made on Tuesday by a joint team of Patgram police station members and Lalmonirhat District Police.

Liton Mia, 28, of Burimari was the 17th accused in the Jewel murder case, 33rd in the case of beating police and obstructing government work, and 20th in a union parisad vandalism case.

Patgram Police Station OC Sumon Kumar Mohant confirmed the information at noon on Tuesday.

Lalmonirhat DB Police OC Mohammad Omar Farooq said Liton Mia, has been sent to Lalmonirhat to be handed over to Lalmonirhat Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Cognizance Court-3 to be shown arrested in the three cases.

It may be mentioned that after the murder of Abu Yunus Md Shahidunnabi Jewel in Burimari union of Patgram upazila in Lalmonirhat on October 29, his dead body was dragged in front of the bamboo mill Bashkol Mesars Joy Traders and was burned along with tires, twigs and petrol.

In the incident three cases were filed and of the 114 named and numerous unnamed accused 32 have been arrested.

Among them are the instigator of the beating inside the mosque and number one accused in the case Abul Hossain alias Hossain Ali, and Jobaid Ali alias Jubed Ali, the caretaker of the mosque.
