A Dhaka court Tuesday sent Dhaka-7 lawmaker Haji Salim’s son Mohammad Erfan Salim and his bodyguard Zahidul Mollah to jail after rejecting their bail petitions in a case filed over assaulting navy official Lt Wasif Ahmed Khan.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ziaur Rahman passed the order after Investigation Officer (IO) Mobinul Haque, also sub-inspector of Detective Branch (DB) of police, produced them before his court on completion of their five-day remand in two phases in the case.

The IO said he appealed to the court to keep them in jail until the investigation is completed.

Meanwhile, Zahidul Mollah confessed to a Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate that he along with others assaulted navy official Lt Wasif Ahmed Khan, court sources said.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Habibur Rahman Chowdhury recorded his confessional statement after IO Mobinul Haque produced him at his chamber.

Details of the confessional statement could not be known immediately.

After recording his statement, the magistrate sent him to Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj.

Four other cases — two against Erfan and another two against Zahid — under the arms and narcotics control acts were filed with Chawkbazar Police Station.

Lt Wasif Ahmed Khan filed the case with Dhanmondi Police Station on October 26, accusing four named and three unnamed persons.

Erfan and Zahidul were sentenced to one year in prison for illegally possessing walkie-talkies and foreign liquor after their arrest on October 26.
